Former labour MP and TV journalist, Austin Mitchell passed away last month aged 86.

A memorial service will be held at Grimsby Minster today at 12 noon to remember the life of Austin Mitchell.

Michael Hunter is a former reverend of the church and is conducting the service – he said:

“We’re expecting 200 plus a lot of his friends are coming as well. A lot of MPs. And we got three speakers from Baroness Kate Hughey, and Martin Boyers from the fish market. And then I'm going to speak about what I remember of Austin.”

Michael has some fond memories of Austin, he said:

“Austin was great, full of energy and a huge work ethic and never stopped and he was just known to everyone at the town and over the course of 25 years ago, I got to know him really well and became great friends.”

“I just love sports soccer, especially but Austin wasn't really into sport, so in some ways we were total opposites. But we just got on like a house on fire and we supported each other because we both believed in the people of Grimsby and supported them.”
