Five members of same family sentenced after shooting in Newark
The victim was hit with a machete and shot in the back but survived his injuries
Four members of the same family have been jailed a total of more than 36 years after a shooting in Newark last year.
A fifth member of the family has also been handed a suspended sentence after a dispute over business interests turned violent.
The victim was confronted by his relatives, his brother Rudolph and nephews Jeremiah, Abraham, Danny and Samson Price, outside of a house in Newark on the afternoon of June 17 2020.
He was assaulted by 51 year old Rudolph Price, before being struck with a machete by 26 year old Abraham Price.
25 year old Jeremiah Price then shot the man in the back with a shotgun.
The victim was then taken to hospital. He survived his injuries.
Brothers Jeremiah and Abraham then went on the run, ending up in Carrington in Manchester.
They were caught in a pursuit involving a police helicopter in October 2020, after jumping into a fast flowing river in an attempt to escape.
The sentences handed down at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (October 4) were:
- Jeremiah Price (25) of Manchester Road, Carrington, Manchester. Jailed for a total of nine years after admitting to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
- Abraham Price (26) of Tolney Lane, Newark. Jailed for nine years after admitting to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
- Rudolph Price (51) of Tolney Lane, Newark. Jailed for nine years six month safter admitting to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
- Danny Price (23) of Tolney Lane, Newark. Jailed for nine years six months after admitting to wounding with intent.
- Samson Price (18) of Tolney Lane, Newark. Sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for 21 months and handed 200 hours' unpaid work after pleading guilty to affray.
Also sentenced as part of the same case:
- Thomas Hallissey (44), of Tolney Lane, Newark. Sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to witness intimidation - its alleged he threatened the victim and his family after the shooting.
Detective Inspector Gayle Hart, from Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Thankfully incidents involving firearms in Nottinghamshire are very rare but this was a shocking act of violence.
“The victim thought he was going to die and was very fortunate not to have been even more seriously injured.
“I want to reassure people that Nottinghamshire Police treats all reports involving firearms and violence extremely seriously and will relentlessly pursue those involved in such acts of violence."
