Grimsby Town’s first female board member has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) as part of the Queen’s Jubilee Honours.

Lifelong Grimsby Town football fan, Kristine Green from Grimsby has been honored for her services to Association football in North-East Lincolnshire.

She is chairs of the Mariner’s Supporters Trust, a role she was elected to in May 2021.

The news of her BEM was a complete surprise. She said: “It’s so bizarre... when the letter came through and it said that I had been given the award, I thought it was a windup.”

Having supported the club for most of her life, she’s also currently playing a leading role in the Fair Game collective, a group of clubs who have come together to contribute to the Fan-led Governance Review of Football led by Tracey Crouch MP.

“The stuff that I do at club, I don’t do it for recognition, I just do it because it’s the right thing to do,” Kristine said.

Kristine’s achievement at the club extends to her not only being chair of the Mariners Trust, but she is also a supporters liaison officer, which is focused on match day issues for fans.

“I love what I do and no two days are ever the same. There is no better job and no better place to be,” she said.

Kristine studied at the University of Lincoln and graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Communications and Public Relations in 2019.

She explained that is one of the reasons that she can do what she does for Grimsby Town, she said: “It gave me the confidence to do what I do now and a lot of what I have done with trust at the football club is down to my degree.”

She hopes that the recognition for the work that she does for the club will give her other opportunities to get involved in, in football.

This weekend Grimsby Town will be travelling to London for the playoff finals against Solihull Moors in this year's National League play off, Kristine hopes that it will be a double celebration for herself and the club.
