We're being warned bird flu could have a devastating impact on Lincoln's swans.

Yesterday a 5th case was reported in Alford.

Senior lecturer in animal health and disease at the University of Lincoln, Dr Jenny Dunn, has launched an app to monitor swans in the area.

"The worst case scenario would be that the virus spreads among the population and could actually cause a high rate of mortality.

"We're not aware of any cases of bird flu in the swan population and we're really hoping it stays that way as it can have a really devastating affect on populations of wild birds.

"It's really important that people keep an eye out and if anyone sees any sick birds that they report them as soon as possible."
