Jenny Damp has been organising Lincoln Big's event, she says :
"So 1940s, originally started around 2019 and then it was stopped for COVID. But it's a free event for everyone to come and get involved with and it includes a range of activities and events for people, whether that's live music, or dancing. Then this year we have grown even more to include, like people can get their hair done and there's a vintage cinema and this year, we have a Lancaster fly over on the Sunday. So it's a range of everything. So there's something for everyone to enjoy.
"It's one of our biggest events, both planning wise and bringing tourists and locals into the city. So, it's been all hands on deck for everyone. We've been getting businesses involved too, so you've got your afternoon teas and most general shops are doing discounts for people in fancy dress, so everyone's kind of been involved."
The Bailgate, Castle Hill will be filled with entertainment and vintage vehicles from the era, alongside traders offering antiques, vintage clothing, confectionary, and artwork.
Some of the acts set to perform include the ever-popular Lincolnshire Lindy Hop Clubs, Johnny Victory, Miss Lily Lovejoy, May Blossom and more.
Lee Roberts, Operations Manager for Lincoln BIG said:
“After not being able to deliver the event for the last couple of years we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the Lincoln 1940’s event. The main hub of the event will take place in the historic Bailgate and Uphill area of Lincoln, but make sure to look out for other pop-up activities across the city to compliment the weekend.
"The weekend will be full of period performances, memorabilia and activity. We encourage everyone to come in period dress to add to the family friendly atmosphere with prizes on offer to the best dresses visitors as well as best dressed business.”
The 1940’s Weekend runs from July 23rd to July 24th, 2022. The event is organised and funded by Lincoln BIG. To find out more about the event, visit Lincoln Big's website.
