Environment Agency warns of flood risks across Lincolnshire
94 per cent of properties in Boston are said to be at risk
The Environment agency says Lincolnshire needs to be better prepared for flooding.
It's as 94 per cent of properties in Boston are said to be at risk if there was very heavy rain or another tidal surge like the one that caused damage in 2013.
They say people in the town and elsewhere in the county should 'ignore the danger at our own peril.'
We spoke to Ben Thornely from the environment agency about the issue.
He told us: "Lincolnshire is at particular risk given that it's protected by coastal defences and is so low lying."
"Within Lincolnshire we know that at least 275 thousand properties are at risk of flooding".
"They're always at risk because they are at low levels compared to the sea level".
"In places like Boston we've recently completed the Boston Barrier scheme which protects a huge number of properties".
"That said whilst we make every effort to reduce flood risks we are not able to prevent all floods"
"Flood action week is all about being prepared and making sure people are aware of their risk".
He has this advice:
"First action is to go online and search check my flood risk",
"When you find that website sign up for those free flood warnings."
"If you are at risk learn what to do and make a flood plan so you know what to take with you and how to act in the event of a flood risk."
