KIDS Lincolnshire says that its a struggle for for disabled children, young people and families to deal with the cost of living crisis. As many are relying on essential goods and services more than others, such as heating, fuel, and electricity.
It's thought especially those in rural areas are facing difficulty, as they will have bigger costs such as transport and fuel.
The charity KIDS have highlighted this issue, being a service that provides a range of resources to those that are disabled.
Katie Ghose is the Chief Executive detailed the difference:
"We work with around 400 families in Lincolnshire, and we know that in a rural area, you don't have a choice, you've got to be taking your disabled child or young person in a car, and we hear every single day about the worries about the rising cost of fuel, and what that means on your ability to provide the love and the care to your family."
She also details that this will unfairly limit these families and children:
"The big issues that families in Lincolnshire and elsewhere are telling us, are the extra costs of disability, so that's heating to stay warm, that's having the car to get around, it's the extra electricity- that's just your daily living. The families we work with are passionate to do what every other family wants; which is the fun stuff with their children as well."
Katie is eager to encourage others to help those disabled children, young people, families and adults where possible, and for people without these challenges to understand what the cost of living, and energy crises.
A spokesperson for the Department for Work and Pensions said they're supporting six million disabled people with an extra £150 pound payment that's due to land in their bank accounts later this month.
