Rubbish from the main entrance to the former RAF Scampton site has been cleared.

West Lindsey District Council said it was so debris from the encampment area doesn’t pose a risk to the public or road users.

The former base was due to house migrants under the previous Government's plans.

The Council says it's been advised the Home Secretary will decide upon the future of current Home Office accommodation, including former RAF Scampton, in due course.

A spokesman for the council’s Waste and Recycling team said:

“The Council has taken steps to clear an area of the encampment at the front of RAF Scampton that was no longer in use.

“There are large amounts of debris and rubbish that have been left in situ, which is what we focussed on clearing in the first instance so that it does not pose a risk to the environment, the public or any road users.”
