We're hearing around 20% of adults in Lincolnshire are drinking over the recommended allowance on a regular basis, which is causing a risk to their health.

It comes as an increasing amount of middle-aged people are referring to substance misuse services, with the overall number of people being treated rising by 23% in recent years.

That's twice the national average.

Pandemic has changed the way we drink

Having an intake of over 14 units a week can cause serious impacts, and can affect someone physically, mentally, and can affect relationships.

We've spoken to Lucy Gavins a consultant in Public Health at Lincolnshire County Council.

She told us: "The pandemic has changed the way people drink."

"We tend to drink in 2 different types of setting, pubs or bars and restaurants but as we remember during the lockdown that wasn't an option."

"There was a shift in terms of people drinking a little bit more at home."

It can affect us in several ways

"It's important to understand what the impact of drinking too much can be and it can be really wide ranging."

"It can affect our physical health, our mental health, relationships and work so I feel it's really important people use the information we have to really look after themselves."
