There are concerns about the impact gambling addiction can have on children across Lincolnshire and Newark

A new report by charity Gambleaware shows that children exposed to gambling are four times more likely to go on to experience similar issues themselves.

They found around 1.6 million children in the UK live with an adult who displays signs of a problematic gambling addiction.

I think it's about having open and honest discussions - finding people you can trust

If parents have a gambling problem it can lead to low esteem and lack of trust in youngsters.

We've spoken to Dorian Carr, at East Midlands Gambling Harms Service.

He told us if you have a gambling issue it's important to get help:

"Don't sit in isolation with it - I think it's about having open and honest discussions - finding people you can trust."

"If there's not people out there there's organisations and support networks and it's about finding the right ones for you."

The strain on psychological wellbeing can result in low self esteem or loss of trust

He told us about the effects of gambling on children.

"That obviously can be very distressing and overwhelming - the strain on psychological well being that can result in low self esteem - loss of trust - social withdrawal - psychological implications."

"Emotional distress we know has a real high percentage signficance in harmful gambling families."

"Lack of money - food - education - neglect can also be a significant part."

"Very often exposure to conflict within the family."

"Children witness that - see that - and that learned behaviour is copied in the same way."

"We learn from our peers - our parents around us."
