Campaigners admit fight to keep Grantham A and E open is now over
It follows the decision to replace it with an urgent treatment centre
Campaigners say their long running fight to keep Grantham A and E open is now over.
Last week health bosses decided to replace it with a 24 hour urgent treatment centre.
The Fighting 4 Life group had campaigned to keep the A and E there a 24 hour service.
However it was closed overnight.
We spoke to Melissa Darcey who co founded the campaign group.
"As much as I've been grieving and I have been grieving like the loss of a loved one since 2018.
"It still doesn't make it any less upsetting that it's happened".
"I know from 6 years on streets in Grantham, in Lincoln, in Boston, in Skegness and in Louth that we don't want this and we made it clear we didn't want this."
"We did it with emails and letters and petitions and marches in so many areas it was unbelievable".
Health bosses made the decision to change to an urgent treatment centre last week.
They deny that it was always the plan to make the change.
They also say the changes will offer better care and reduced waiting times for patients.
