A Grantham family, and health campaigners, have renewed calls for a 24 hour accident and emergency centre in the town after a man was stung by a wasp and nearly died.

Paul Aston went into anaphylactic shock, but by the time he arrived at the hospital it had been shut for 45 minutes.

Thankfully staff were still there.

His daughter Gemma says if they hadn't helped they'd have had to travel to Newark or Lincoln and it could have been an entirely different story.

She says "I tried not to think about it but it was hard, I'm an only child and my parents are my world".

"My dad was literally dying next to me"

"It was scary, really scary".

"Staff at the hospital were just like, we're closed and I said he's had an allergic reaction and is dying, he can't breathe."

"They just grabbed him, got into resuscitation and saved his life"

"I'm so grateful they didn't turn us away and I've got my dad still."

The Trust in charge says it's not an acceptable situation, it's working hard to remedy it as quickly as possible and that it's clear there's a need for 24/7 emergency care in Grantham.
