A man has been jailed after admitting scaring members of the public when he produced a gun following a parking dispute in North Lincolnshire.
Trevor Cheesman, 62, of South View Avenue, Burringham was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of firearm and possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of a firearm by person prohibited.
Appearing at Grimsby Crown Court yesterday, he pleaded guilty to all offences.
Cheesman became disgruntled after a member of the public had parked on a driveway he claimed belonged to him on Monday 19 February.
He approached them whilst holding a wheel clamp and advised they should move.
When members of the public approached him later that day in an attempt to resolve the issue, Cheesman assaulted one of them and then produced a gun from behind his back.
Police were called to attend Cheesman’s address and he was arrested on suspicion of affray.
During a search of his property officers recovered a loaded gun and ammunition for which he did not possess a licence.
Detective Constable Stephen Storey said: “The actions of Cheesman that day were reckless and could have led to devastating consequences for innocent members of the public.
“I am pleased he acknowledged his actions that day, admitting what he did and can no longer cause fear to members of the community.
“If you know someone who carries a weapon, please do tell us as this information gives us the authority we need to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons, as well as prosecute those who are."
Cheesman was sentenced to five-years in prison and handed a ten-year restraining order.
