There was something of a joyous atmosphere as hundreds of fans turned up to celebrate Boston United's promotion to the National League last night.

The victory parade for the Pilgrims took place at the Jakeman's stadium.

It includes the club's junior team as well as first team players and staff plus of course the play-off trophy.

Boston United secured their place in the playoffs by finishing sixth in the National League North.

They then went on to beat Alfreton Town, Scunthorpe United and then Brackley Town.

The Pilgrims got past Brackley 2-1 last Saturday.

It's fantastic for the town - fantastic for the team

The win ended a 14 year wait for promotion from the National League North.

Saturday's match saw around 9 hundred make the trip to Brackley.

Boston United also held a screening of the match at the Jakeman's Community Stadium for fans who couldn't make the trip.

Last night it was time to party - time to reflect on a highly successful season and time to look forward to playing in the division just one down from the football league.

And of course there's a chance to aim for promotion to the EFL.

We spoke to delighted fans last night.

They told us:

"They won it during away games - it's good - good for the town."

"It means a lot - it's fantastic for the town - it's fantastic for the team."

It means everything

"I've been here for quite a while now since Rochdale in 2019 and since then I've always supported them."

"It means everything - hopefully they can keep going and it's good for the town and for all the children coming up."

"I've supported them for 50 years and seen a few highs and a few lows and this is one of the highs again."

We also spoke to Pilgrim's assistant manager Paul Bastock:

"A lot of fans couldn't make it Brackley Town because we weren't allocated enough tickets."

"So to get the chance for them to meet some of the players tonight and be part of it - just sums up what this football club is all about - it's a community club.

"At the end of the game (on Saturday) the feeling of jubilation amongst the supporters was just unbelievable."

They're back where they belong

We spoke to defender Brad Nicholson at the celebrations.

"It's a great achievement - not just for the lads but for everyone involved - it's massive for the club."

"They're back where they belong and hopefully we can push on and do it again."

"I'm still shocked - lost for words"

"It doesn't feel like the season's finished - feels like we've still got more games but I'm over the moon."

So congratulations to Boston United at the end of a very successful campaign and we wish them the best of luck for their campaign in the national league.
