It's been a long journey of over 15 months - but a dog, who was saved from drowning in a river near Newark, has finally got the happy ending she deserves.

10-year-old Bella was rescued after she was thrown into the River Trent and weighed down by a rock.

After months of rehabilitation and care we're very happy to say she's now found her forever home - with a retired couple living in a village in South Derbyshire.

Ella Carpinter from the RSPCA nursed her back to health:

She continues: "We really didn't know whether she would make it or overcome the trauma. But she did respond to treatment, and she did pick up."

"She has been such a fighter - she has never wanted to give up and even when we questioned whether it was right to go on, is this right to keep this dog going, there was something about her that was not wanting to give up and obviously once we had that that sparkle in her we were not prepared to give up on her either"

And on her new home:

"I don't think we could have found anyone more caring or more suitable to take Bella on. We always knew it might be challenging to find her the right home for all her needs and care. But they've had german shephards before, they're a retired couple so they'll have plenty of time spent with her"
