Baby boy dies following a crash on the A1 near Grantham

A baby boy has died in hospital following a crash on the A1 near Grantham.

Emergency services were called to reports a Honda Jazz had left the southbound carriageway and hit a tree around 11 o clock last night near the Spittalgate junction.

It's not believed any other vehicle were involved.

The 7 month old infant suffered serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital but died around 5 o clock this morning.

His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A woman travelling in the car suffered serious injuries, 2 other passengers weren't badly hurt.

Officers will be considering whether the crash may have been linked to the icy conditions

Police are investigating what caused the crash.

They say they're keeping an open mind but will be considering whether it may have been linked to the icy conditions last night.

In a statement they said:

We are asking for help from anyone who may have been driving in that area over the past few days to get in touch with information or dashcam they may have which show conditions over the past few days.

We would also been keen to view any footage of the collision itself and ask that anyone who was traveling that in that area who we have not yet spoken with to get in touch.
