We've all been suffering in the heat over recent days but what if you're a porcupine, llama or wallaby?

How do they all stay cool when the mercury starts to rise?

We've been speaking to the Ark Exotic Animal Sanctuary near Stickney.

They've been pulling out all the stops to ensure everything from a mongoose to a lemur doesn't suffer in the heat.

Co founder Jamie Mintram says many of their animals get paddling pools to play in, just like children at home.

And there are a few edible treats to help them keep their cool.

The herbivores get special ice lollies.

Keepers take a number of berries and grind them into a "mush".

That's then frozen and served up as a bespoke lolly.

It's a little different for carnivores, although it's the same principle.

Meat is frozen to create the kind of lolly the local ice cream seller probably hasn't got on their menu.

And both lollies go down well with the animals.

Jamie says it's been a real delight watching the likes of arctic foxes playing in the water.

The hot weather may not last but it's certainly made a lasting impression on the animals!
