Almost £10,000 has been raised by people across Lincolnshire to help doctors and nurses fighting Covid-19 on the frontline in India.

The second wave is having a devastating effect in the country, with a lack of ICU beds, oxygen and facilities.

Dr Shreya Vinod is from Lincs Indian Society, who are behind the fundraiser, she's still in touch with those she trained with.

"The difficulties are made much harder by the very heart-breaking situation that one has to work in.

"Families dying alone, patients are dying alone.

"So it’s not just the physical side, there’s a lot of emotional exhaustion that sets in too.

"If you then have to try and procure the drugs, or the oxygen, or a bed for your patients as well it is really, really hard."

Dr Shrabani Saha has family in India. Her niece is currently in hospital, her mum is high risk and she feels trapped in Lincoln, unable to help.

"It feels scary to open the mobile and open the WhatsApp.

"In the WhatsApp are various groups and we hear all the time in them that a known person has died.

"So that is the scary news we feel all the time."
