Aircraft crashes into field in Lincolnshire

An aircraft, reportedly a spitfire, has crashed in Lincolnshire.
Police were called to a field near RAF Coningsby just before 1.20pm this afternoon (Saturday 25th May).
An air accident investigation bureau's confirmed the military is looking into what's happened.
It is believed to be a single occupant aircraft and nobody else is thought to have been involved, Lincolnshire Police said.
RAF Coningsby is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a collection of wartime fighter and bomber aircraft that take part in air shows and memorial displays.

Police and other emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident in Coningsby following reports made to us just before 1.20pm of an aircraft crashing in a field.
It is believed to be a single occupant aircraft and nobody else is thought to have been involved.
Road closures are in place in the areas of Dogdyke Road and Sandy Bank. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

An RAF spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident in the vicinity of RAF Coningsby involving an RAF aircraft.
"We are working with the emergency services and supporting those involved.
"An update will be provided in due course."
