Innovative plans have been revealed for a £20 million pound factory in Spalding which will produce a plant based protein.

Naylor Farms currently produces cabbage for coleslaw and the new operation would see their waste turned into a protein which could be used as a meat replacement.

They're also hoping the venture will see new factories built both here and on the continent.

Chief Executive Simon Naylor runs the firm and says:

"We're already in talks with retailers about out of date life vegetables to be put through the plant. Protein which is non de- natured that means its all about the gut health, you've got all the nutrients. It's totally revolutionary and it's fantastic that we're going to have the first factory here in Lincolnshire"

"The Dutch Government are involved in this because its a export when we've done it so that all the machinery will be built in Holland - that means the Dutch Government are also investing in this - so of course they're keen for us to build a factory there, same in Germany and Poland"

He says they're also working closely with the University of Lincoln:

"This is right up their street, revolutionary. We want to involve them heavily and have a student learning centre at the factory. Because it's so new and there's nothing like it we need to upskill have new students coming along who then want to work for us"
