People in the North Lincolnshire village of Scawby may notice that some of its bus shelters are covered in knitting today.

The village hall and village green have also been decorated as part of a national day celebrating yarnbombing - where lamposts, buildings and post boxes are all wrapped with woolly creations.

The decorations which went up last night will stay there all weekend and Marianne Pierson, from Scawby's WI, says they've spent six weeks making them.

"It's been a great way of bringing people together during the pandemic. I think we've had about 17 knitters and crocheters. It's been a really excellent way of giving people a focus while we've not been able to meet up"

she continues: " the scarecrow weekend is very popular we get lots of families coming out going round looking at all the scarecrows.

I think the yarnbombing will just add to that. It's an ideal way of brightening up the village over a long weekend"
