A man's been arrested in Newark after allegedly making a threat online to burn down a house with a family inside.

Officers were called out to an address on Albert Street on Monday afternoon around 3pm after the threats were reportedly received via social media

A 19 year old man's been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and to destroy property, he's been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police say they believe it's an isolated incident with people that are known to each other

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Newark Charlotte Allardice said: "This is an incident that understandably would have caused a lot of distress for the family and we always take such reports seriously.

"Making such threats and causing such fear is absolutely unacceptable, and wherever there are such reports we will investigate thoroughly and take the appropriate measures to keep everyone safe.

"We would reassure people that we believe this is an isolated incident between people known to each other. However, neighbourhood officers will be in the area and we would encourage you to speak to them or get in touch with any concerns.

"A man has been arrested and officers are continuing their enquiries into the incident. We would urge anyone with information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 432 of 2 August 2021.
