Designed to challenge participants in high intensity large force tactical training, Cobra Warrior is taking place at RAF Waddington. Participants this year include the Air Forces of the United Kingdom, USA, Germany and Italy. The training began on Monday and will continue to the 23rd of the September.
RAF Waddington welcomed international Air Forces this week, for the its infamous tactical training, Cobra Warrior.
Cobra Warrior is a major exercise that is designed to challenge participants in high intensity large force tactical training, it is regarded as the largest Royal Air Force exercise of the year.
It will be controlled by directing staff at RAF Waddington and take place from September 5th to 23rd.
Flight Lieutenant David Swift is the media and comms officer at RAF Waddington, he describes the importance of the event:
"It's one of the capstone RAF events, one of the training events that we lead. In this iteration we've got the US Air Force, the Italians and the Germans, all integrating with us, so it's a multi-kind of-domain integration. I don't want to go too kind of, long words on it. But basically practicing working together, that collaborative effort and yeah, it's going to be three exciting weeks of that output."
In 2019, according to the Royal Air Force, the exercise rehearsed a range of complex scenarios focusing on developing tactics and strategies to counter a near peer adversary including crisis and conflict situations that could be encountered in operations. The UK forces trained alongside personnel from Germany, Israel and Italy. Several Israeli F-15s flew together with UK Typhoons, Italian and German Eurofighters for the first time in the RAF's 101-year history.
