A woman has been rushed to hospital with a suspected fractured pelvis after being thrown from an off-road bike in Skelmersdale.

It's understood the driver lost control of the bike on Spencers Lane yesterday afternoon before fleeing the scene, leaving the woman lying on the side of the road.

Police say the woman was wearing a helmet which limited her injuries. They've also thanked members of the public who stopped to help her.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "Skelmersdale Police attended a road traffic collision whereby an off road bike has lost control and a female was thrown off the rear of the bike. The driver of the off road bike has then fled the scene leaving an injured female on the side of the road. She has been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured pelvis.

"Thankfully the female was wearing a helmet otherwise this could have been much worse.

"This is just another example of how dangerous these bikes can be and why we do not tolerate them.

"We would like to thank all of the members of the public who assisted at the scene."
