A woman in her 50s has suffered facial injuries after being assaulted during an aggravated burglary in St Helens.
It happened at around 9:45pm on Knowsley Road when it's reported two unknown males forced entry into the house.
The woman was able to escape the property through a rear entrance. Although it is believed that nothing was stolen, the suspects caused damage to a van and three cars parked outside the property.
A Merseyside Police investigation is currently underway, with officers conducting house-to-house, CCTV, and forensic enquiries in the local area.
The force is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything suspicious to come forward.
They have released descriptions of the suspects; one of the males was around 6ft tall, dressed all in black with his hood up, and the lower part of his face covered.
The second male was around 5ft 8in tall, with a light grey jacket with the hood up, and the lower half of his face covered. Both males spoke with local accents and are believed to be in their mid to late 20s.
Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan said: “This was a shocking incident in which a woman was assaulted during a burglary in her own home.
“Thankfully incidents such as this are very rare but we are committed to finding the people responsible and bringing them to justice.
“I would ask anyone who was driving along Knowsley Road last night who saw or heard anything suspicious or think they have information which could assist with our enquiries to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
