West Lancashire's new Chief Inspector starts new role
CI Chris Abbott joined Lancashire Constabulary in 2003.
Ormskirk and Skelmersdale Police have welcomed a new Chief Inspector.
CI Chris Abbott joined Lancashire Constabulary in 2003 and was first posted to Bispham near Blackpool. While there he passed his Sergeant’s exams and took up an acting Sergeant position in South Shore.
He continued to work in the Blackpool and Fylde area in Response, covering the area where he was born and went to school. He transferred to Custody as a Sergeant remaining in that position for five years.
From there he moved divisions across to South, which covers Preston, Chorley, South Ribble, Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, spending a lot of his time in Skelmersdale.
He was appointed Geographic Inspector for Chorley and South Ribble in early 2020, before being promoted to Chief Inspector and posted back to West Lancashire in May 2021.
CI Abbott is looking forward to taking on his new role. He said: "It’s fantastic to be back in West Lancashire. I’ve gone full circle from working in Skelmersdale as Sergeant to coming back as a Chief Inspector. It means a lot to me to come back and serve the local community of West Lancashire. I want to work with members of the public and my priority is to listen to people, to build more trust and confidence with the community and let them know that we will act on the priorities they tell us about.
"One of the ways people can tell us about their concerns is through Lancashire Talking and I would encourage communities to sign up, our neighbourhood teams can then act upon those concerns."
CI Abbott will also be responsible for the new Skelmersdale Police Station which will reopen later this year. "The station will be at the heart of West Lancashire and is going to allow us to be more effective in keeping people safe. We are really looking forward to moving back to Skelmersdale."
