WATCH: Why Manchester is the best place for the Olympic Homecoming parade
Great news for the north west.
Following the success of Team GB at Rio 2016 prime minister Theresa May has announced that Manchester will host a homecoming parade 'fit for heroes'.
Homecoming parades for the past three Olympics have been in London, but many have called for it to be held outside of the capital to reflect the nationwide contribution to Team GB's spectacular medals haul.
Darryl Morris a presenter on Greatest Hits Radio's sister station Hits Radio appeared on Sky News to discuss why Manchester is the perfect place to hold the homecoming parade.
On the programme he said, "We have been the driving force behind Great Britain's success and sporting prowess at this Olympics."
However Dean Scoggins, deputy head of sport, Sunsport had a different opinion saying he didn't think that Manchester's infrastructure could cope,
"I'm sure Manchester will put on a fantastic show, I don't think there's any doubt about that," he said, "but I doubt it would be on the level that London would do it."
Darryl responded, disagreeing with Dean saying, "Manchester is a progressive, radical city which is the greenhouse from which Team GB's success has grown."
Team GB has finished the Rio 2016 games second place in the medals table and Greater Manchester has more golds than the host country Brazil.
It's no surprise therefore that it is home to the National Cycling Centre and Velodrome, where Jason Kenny and Laura Trott trained, as well as being the centre of British Taekwondo which saw a number of the Manchester-based squad being rewarded with gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals.
