Tommy Fleetwood's long-serving caddie Ian Finnis has revealed he has had open-heart surgery.

Having been almost an ever-present at Fleetwood's side since their partnership began in 2016, Finnis was conspicuous by his absence at this year's Masters.

Fleetwood, who recorded his best finish at Augusta in a tie for third as Scottie Scheffler claimed his second green jacket, informed the media his friend was suffering from a protracted illness.

Finnis wrote in an Instagram story posted on Tuesday: "Open heart surgery done!! Massive thanks to all at the NHS staff. The road to recovery has started. Thanks for all the love."

Finnis has been the Southport golfer's caddie for six of his DP World Tour titles, most recently at the Dubai Invitational in January. Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
