Around five-thousand jobs at BAE Systems in Lancashire will be safeguarded for the next decade thanks to a new five-billion pound Typhoon jet deal.

The defence giant will start work on building 24 Eurofighter Typhoon jets which will be delivered to Qatar by 2022.

They'll be built at Warton and the company says this will protect jobs there for at least another 10 years.

The company announced they're axing 750 jobs from both their Warton and Salmesbury sites back in October.

They have confirmed to us today those cuts are still going ahead next year due to a fall in demand for the Eurofighter jets.

Charles Woodburn, BAE Systems Chief Executive said:

“We are delighted to begin a new chapter in the development of a long-term relationship with the State of Qatar and the Qatar Armed Forces, and we look forward to working alongside our customer as they continue to develop their military capability”
