Teenager arrested after four-year-old girl struck by firework

A young child suffered severe injuries and remains in hospital

Police have arrested a teenager after a four year old girl was hit by a firework in the Elm Street area of Burnley.

Lancashire Police were called at 8.47pm on Wednesday following a report a child had been struck by a firework and suffered a number of serious injuries.

She remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Today, police have arrested a 15-year-old boy from Burnley on suspicion of statuary public nuisance.

The arrest relates to the alleged supply of fireworks and he remains in custody at this time.

They are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
