A 14 year old girl is being treated for serious injuries after being hit by a van and thrown over a wall in West Lancashire.

It happened on Moss Lane in Burscough at around 3.45 yesterday afternoon.

She was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with serious injuries by air ambulance. Police say she is in a critical but stable condition.

The 28 year old driver of the white Mercedes Sprinter Van was treated by paramedics at the scene, but didn't need further treatment.

Officers cordoned off the road for around 4 hours as forensic teams carried out tests on the road.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Adam Dawson, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said:

“This incident has left a teenage girl with serious injuries and we are now trying to piece together exactly what happened.

“Maybe you saw the girl or the van in the moments before the collision, or maybe you saw the incident unfold. If you have any information, however small, we would urge you to contact us as soon as possible.

“We would also like to thank the local residents who assisted the emergency services at the scene.”
