Students in Lancashire 'should be proud of themselves' as they find out GCSE results today
It's thought students here were some of the worst hit in the country as surging coronavirus rates forced thousands to isolate at home
As thousands of teenagers face the nervous wait for their GCSE results this morning, headteachers in Lancashire tell us students should be proud of how they dealt with one of the most disruptive school years in history.
Over the last year our region's seen some of the highest numbers of children having to isolate at home because of coronavirus outbreaks.
On Tuesday a record number of A-Level students in the region got top grades as well as across the country.
James Harris, headteacher of Walton-Le-Dale in Bamber Bridge, said he admires how his students have coped over the last year: "My message to my students and to every year 11 who gets their results today is you have done fantastically well to get to this point.
"Your grades are a reflection of the courage, and resilience and hard work that you have put in...don't let anyone say differently.
"It has been a very challenging two years, like none other I've known in thirty years in the profession.
"I think it's very important that our students take enormous pride in what they've achieved; the skills, the resilience, the independence and maturity that they have developed rapidly will stand them in good stead going forward, never mind the results they've achieved."
