Jail for Lancashire retirement home manager who stole £20k from elderly woman, 88
She has been jailed for over two years
A retirement home manager who conned an 88-year-old woman out of over £20,000 has been jailed for two-years-and-ten-months.
58-year-old Stephanie White, who's from Clitheroe, made the victim believe she was helping her pay her bills.
Instead, she was writing cheques to herself.
White stole £21,697.79 from the elderly woman.
She was arrested after the victim's family found bank statements in her flat whilst she was in hospital.
She initially denied the charges put to her and said the money was a gift or loan.
Eventually she pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position.
The victim's family said, “As a result of these events, my grandmother now lives with lasting anxiety and fear.
“This ordeal has also deeply affected our family. We entrusted her wellbeing to someone we believed to be capable and compassionate. Instead, she was exploited and left confused and afraid. No elderly person should ever have to endure such treatment.”
