A cordon remains in place on Tanfields in Skelmersdale this morning after an explosion left three people requiring hospital treatment.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the area at around 6pm last night (17th May) to reports of a loud bang - four fire engines, from Skelmersdale, Ormskirk and Bamber Bridge attended the scene.

Neighbours told reporters they felt their own homes shaking during the incident as local residents were told to stay clear of the immediate area.

North West Ambulance Service and police have also been in attendance making the site as safe and secure as possible.

We understand three people had been taken to hospital, one with head injuries - although they’re not thought to be fatal. Two others were treated at the scene.

A cordon is still in place this morning and it's expected that investigations will start today into the cause of the explosion.
