Image of victim of "horrific assault" in Skelmersdale released by police

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Skelmersdale have released an image of the victim and his injuries as they continue to appeal for information.

On the morning of Easter Sunday, police were called to a report that a man had been found with serious injuries near Ferndale, Birch Green.

He had been making his way to work before being attacked and enquiries have led police to believe that it took place near to Firbeck.

The 37-year-old was taken to Aintree Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for information from the public as their enquiries are ongoing to identify the offenders.

Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “This was a horrific assault which has left a man in a very serious condition in hospital.

“The level of violence used is frankly obscene and the victim is lucky to be alive. We hope this image, which shows the severity of the injuries inflicted, will prompt members of the community to come forward.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us piece together what has happened and to help identify the offenders to contact us.”

Extra police patrols have been in the area over the weekend and will continue to be over the next few days.
