Saints run as Super League champions over after semi-final defeat

A disappointing night for St Helens ended in defeat, as their run as Super League champions came to an end.

Saints were beaten 12-6 by Catalan Dragons - who now head to next weekend's Grand Final against Wigan or Hull KR.

Catalans held a narrow 2-0 lead at half-time after Adam Keighran scored a penalty in the 29th minute.

After the break, Saints did improve with a try in the first ten minutes, but Catalans clawed themselves back level through two further penalties.

With eight minutes to go, Saints' Matty Lees was sent to the sin bin following a slow play the ball.

Sam Tomkins scored a last minute drop goal, then dummied and evaded four tackles to win it for Catalans.
