The Royal Blackburn Hospital has created a Christmas tree....with a twist.

People can write a personal message to a loved one that they have lost and hang it on the Memory Tree.

The Bereavement Care Service at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting visitors, staff and patients to leave their personal Christmas message on a special Memory Tree at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The Trust is inviting people to leave a message remembering friends and family members on the Memory Tree which can be found close to the Macmillan Cancer information stand on Level 1.

“Christmas is a special time of year for sharing with family and friends, but for many people, it is a time to remember loved ones and absent friends,” says Bereavement Care Coordinator, Erin Bolton.

“Last year more than 250 messages were left and we invite patients, staff and visitors to write their own personal message, hang it on the Memory Tree and share a few quiet moments of contemplation.”

Special message tags can be found under the tree on Level 1. If people prefer, messages of remembrance can be emailed to erin.bolton@elht.nhs.uk. The Memory Tree will be in place until January.
