Preston Council has retrieved a statue of a baby Jesus after it had been stolen from the town's nativity scene.

The council had discovered that the baby went missing on Tuesday (December 21st) and took to social media to appeal for information.

In addition, the post had asked for the statue to be returned to its rightful place in the scene, which the council had said was "a very popular scene".

However, after the appeal, a local man called Trevor Edwards came forward in the early hours of Wednesday morning, saying that he had spotted the statue.

Having gone looking for the baby, Mr Edwards came upon it perched up against a tree next to the nativity.

With the baby now in his hands, Mr Edwards tweeted that he would return the statue to the Council later today.

Preston Council have now confirmed the baby Jesus statue has been returned to its rightful place in the manger.

The nativity scene will remain open to the public until January 4th next year, allowing locals to pay a visit to see the now-famous baby Jesus statue.
