Police are investigating the death of a prisoner
Lancashire Constabulary are investigating after the death of a prisoner at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary at the weekend.
The force were called to the hospital on Saturday (25 January) to support HM Prison officers in restraining a man, who was being guarded.
The prisoner, who was in his 30s, had become unwell and agitated.
At around 5.30pm the man’s medical condition worsened, and he stopped breathing and became unconscious.
He was given CPR, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Lancashire Constabulary will retain responsibility for investigating the wider circumstances leading to the man’s death.
