Police investigating alleged racist comment made during Blackpool v Coventry game

An investigation is underway into an alleged racist comment made during last night's football match between Blackpool FC and Coventry City FC at Bloomfield Road.

It was reported that the remark was made by a fan towards a Coventry City player who was taking a throw-in close to the dugout during the second half.

Anyone who might have any information on the incident is being asked to contact police.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating an alleged racist hate crime during last night's football match between Blackpool FC and Coventry City FC.

"It was reported a racist comment was made by a fan towards a Coventry player taking a throw-in close to the dugout during the second half.

"The matter was reported to the fourth official, Coventry FC and Blackpool FC, with the police later informed.

"An investigation is underway and enquiries ongoing.

"Lancashire Police strongly condemns all forms of racism. The force takes hate crime very seriously and this behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities."
