Detectives investigating a stabbing in Darwen yesterday believe there was another incident a short while earlier.

A man in his 40s is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after suffering stab wounds to the leg in the early hours of yesterday morning (June 30th).

It happened near the Auto-Tek garage on Cotton Hall Street and emergency services were called at around 4.30am).

But now police are looking for another victim who they believe was stabbed in land at the rear of Heyfold Gardens a short while earlier.

They've reviewed CCTV footage as part of the enquiry which shows a man, in the company of another male, being stabbed in the lower back by an assailant at around 4.15am.

No victim has come forward in relation to the incident and police want to check on their welfare.

Det Insp John McNamara, of East CID, said:

“During our enquiries we have found some footage which appears to show another, earlier, assault but we so far have no victim who has come forward in relation to that and I would appeal for them to come forward if they are able to, or for anyone who has information about either incident to get in touch.”

Enquiries are ongoing and a 15-year-old male was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of Section 18 wounding.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log 0246 of June 30th. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
