Police appealing witnesses after man assaulted with a metal bar in Wigan

It happened at a property in Ince on Saturday night

Police have issued bodycam images of a man they would like to speak to following an assault against an elderly male on Warrington Road, Ince, Wigan.

Shortly before 9.15pm on Saturday (27 November) officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a residential property on Warrington Road.

Police arrived at the property and located a suspect. However, following a brief struggle, the suspect fled the scene.

Enquiries have since established that the offender knocked on the front door of the property at around 9pm and, when the victim answered the door, he was immediately assaulted with a metal bar.

Emergency services attended and the victim, a man in his late 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in a stable condition.

Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Detective Constable David Law, of GMP Wigan's Criminal Investigation Division, said: "This was a vicious attack on an elderly and vulnerable man who was unable to defend himself.

"We would now like to speak to the man in these images. If anyone has any information that could help us to identify this man please get in touch with police."
