Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner's told us action is being taken to protect women in the county and keep them safe.

Wayne Couzens is spending his first day behind bars for the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard.

Her death sparked a huge conversation about women's safety both on the streets and in their own homes.

Policing minister Kit Malthouse said the police will have to work hard to rebuild public confidence following the murder of Sarah Everard by serving Met officer Wayne Couzens.

Andrew Snowden says they're bringing in more resources and insists action is being taken:

"Domestic abuse and sexual violence, more broadly we know is on the rise.

"That's why I've been working with central government. That's why we've brought in £2.5mil to really work and invest in keeping women safe and protecting them, and then supporting the victims and looking at what we can learn from it and identify and target those perpetrators.

"We're seeing an increasing amount of resources coming into this area. We've got increasing numbers of police officers.

"We're looking through the Police and Crime plan with the new chief constable at improving our rape investigation and all of the resources that goes around that.

"It's a conversation we were already having around sexual violence and domestic abuse in Lancashire. We were already talking about investing more resources as part of the additonal national resources coming into Lancashire into supporting our rape investigations teams and in terms of more bobbies on the front line keeping the streets safe."
