If you're planning to get married in the near future - look no further than Wigan!

A venue in the town has been declared the best place to get married in the whole of the UK.

Ashfield House in Standish retained its crown at the prestigious The Wedding Industry Awards 2018.

Over 1500 wedding specific businesses entered The Wedding Industry Awards with 25,000 votes and positive comments collected in the voting period.

Those choosing to get married at Ashfield House have free-reign of the historical country house where the famous ‘Wigan pie eaters’ term was coined during the miners’ strike in 1926.

The venue features hair and makeup stations, speciality coffee bar, outdoor wood fired pizza ovens, and even a gin cupboard!

Co-owner and wedding coordinator, Katie Street, collected the awards on behalf of Ashfield House and said;

“We are a small independent family business and have to work super hard to stand out. We compete with some big international names.

The award last year was a huge shock but had such a positive effect on Ashfield House. Our team were so proud"

“We know how stressful it can be planning a wedding. We always say “we’re not normal!” at Ashfield House because we operate a little differently. We never do boring, we don’t like rules and as an independent business we are able to let couples use the warm and welcoming space how they like.

Josie Doughty, 27, from Burnley, who married her partner Matt at Ashfield House in November 2017, said:

“As soon as I saw the pictures of Ashfield House online I said “that’s where we are getting married!” It was just perfect and so many of our guests have commented that it was the best wedding ever. It was so personal to us both and a day we will treasure forever.”
