Not to be outdone by the sinkholes in America and Manchester, Preston has its very own sinkhole.

But unlike the huge holes we have seen in the news Preston's is a little smaller, in fact you could say it's more of a dip in the road.

When news first broke of a sinkhole appearing in the city centre we turned up expecting something like the hole on Mancuian Way, Manchester which appeared back in August (below).

In reality what we saw in Lancaster Road was so small we walked straight past it! The only clue to its existence was the road closed with a United Utilities vehicle and a few workmen.

Sadly the the description of 'sinkhole' was probably a bit of an exageration, the hole was only around a foot across and could be covered completely by one traffic cone.

It's safe to say that no one was hurt and no buildings were damaged, although the road will need to be repaired and has resulted in a number of bus services being diverted.
