Detailed plans for a £1m attraction based on the children’s character Peter Rabbit have been submitted to Blackpool Council by operator Merlin.

A blueprint for the new complex, which will be located on the Promenade next to Madame Tussauds which Merlin already operates, shows a burrow exploration area, ‘Mr McGregor’s Garden’ and ‘Jeremy Fisher’s Sensory Pond’.

The application says the scheme based on the Peter Rabbit TV series will attract thousands of new visitors to Blackpool and support the council’s “development plan and vision for the resort.”

Work will see the conversion of currently empty space including a former candle shop and souvenir shop, and some space which is part of Madame Tussauds.

Merlin first announced proposals for the attraction in November, with the aim being for children to ‘think like a rabbit, move like a rabbit, and deploy rabbit-like senses with a whole burrow full of creativity”.

The plans will now go before town hall planners at a future date for consideration.
