One person has been rescued from the sea in Blackpool after reports they'd jumped from the North Pier and suffered injuries.

The RNLI were called out in the early hours of this morning, and helped them to safety.

It then emerged the person didn't jump from the pier, and were just suffering the effects of the cold.

A Blackpool RNLI spokesperson said: "Our RNLI volunteers were called out at 1.10am this morning to reports that a person may have jumped from North Pier and suffered injuries.

"One Dclass lifeboat launched, found the person in the water & helped them to safety. Fortunately they had not jumped from the pier & were just suffering the effects of cold.

"North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Maritime and Coastguard Agency & Blackpool Police also attended."
