A woman in her 80's is seriously injured in hospital after she was mugged in broad daylight in Blackpool.

The incident is believed to have happened some time before 5pm on Saturday 24th February in the Dutton Road area.

The pensioner was approached from behind by the offender who pulled her handbag from her shoulder. This caused the victim to fall to the floor, suffering serious injury to her hip.

She was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The offender is believed to be a man who is described as wearing a cream or white hat.

We are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward who could provide information which could help with our investigation.

Detective Inspector Richard Irving of Blackpool Police, said: “This has been a violent robbery on a defenceless elderly woman and we need to trace the offender. The offence happened in broad daylight and we’d urge anyone with information, or who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, to come forward.

“The lady’s handbag is also still missing and it’s possible it could still be in the area. This is a key part of evidence that we are looking to find. It is described as a black shoulder bag. If you see a handbag matching this description, please do not touch it and report it to police.
