Blackburn Rovers have named Owen Coyle as their new manager.

The former Burnley, Wigan Athletic and Bolton boss has signed a two-year deal with the club.

This comes after Paul Lambert walked away at the end of last season saying he had different aspirations to the club's owners.

Coyle will work alongside assistant manager Alan Irvine and first team coach Rob Kelly.

Owen Coyle said: "First and foremost I'm absolutely thrilled and honoured to be Blackburn Rovers manager and I look forward to working with terrific people at the club.

"The ultimate aim is to give a team that is representative of the fans, a team that is entertaining and hard working, and a team that can win."

Rovers Director Mike Cheston said: "We are delighted to welcome Owen to the club. We took our time and conducted a thorough search and Owen was the standout candidate.

"He brings with him a wealth of management experience, a strong track record in the Championship and we believe he will complement our existing coaching staff perfectly.

"He meets all of the criteria we were looking for and we firmly believe he is the right man to take this club forward."

Yesterday, the fans took to Twitter to launch a protest against the club's owners on the way they are running the club.

Rock FM contacted Blackburn Rovers on the social media campaign and they declined to comment.
