More than £7,000 worth of illegal vapes have been seized in Whitworth during a police day of action aimed at tackling community concerns — including the sale of vapes to children and dangerous parking near schools.

Rossendale Police, working with Trading Standards and Lancashire Parking Services, carried out a series of enforcement activities on Tuesday (4 June) following feedback from the Lancashire Talking survey.

A local vape shop was raided after reports of underage sales, with officers removing a large quantity of single-use vapes, now banned in the UK.

A further search of a nearby car uncovered vapes believed to contain THC, a psychoactive substance. A 35-year-old man from Rochdale was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

“It’s great that we’ve been able to remove a quantity of illegal vapes from the streets of Whitworth,” said Sergeant Paul Marsden.

“Those using these vapes risk inhaling very dangerous substances, and we are determined to protect people from the threat they pose.”

Officers also joined parking enforcement teams outside local primary schools during pick-up and drop-off times, speaking with parents and children about the importance of safe and legal parking.

The day of action is part of ongoing efforts to respond to local concerns and keep communities safe.

“We encourage the community to continue reporting their concerns,” Sgt Marsden added. “This is just one example of the work we do day-in, day-out.”

Residents are also being urged to take part in the Lancashire Talking survey and sign up to ‘In the Know’ to stay informed about local policing.
